TRAINER DEVELOPMENT2012 OHA Coaches and Trainers Clinic, JULY 20th - 21st, Now Accepting ApplicationsThe Ontario Hockey Association in conjunction with Hockey Canada and the Hockey Development Centre of Ontario is pleased to announce their 2012 Coaches and Trainers Clinic’s taking place once again this July 20-22 (Friday evening and all day Saturday, Sunday for the Coaches) at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo. The OHA continues to provide an excellent opportunity for new coaches to gain their Development 1 coaching certification. Trainers experience the same kind of excellent professional instruction when attending the Trainers level three clinic. The 2012 Coaches clinic is a three day seminar which will provide junior and minor hockey coaches across Ontario the opportunity to learn from the experiences of some of the top leaders and coaches of the OHA, OHL, Minor Pro and NHL. Seminar topics include hockey experts sharing their personal experiences of the new challenges coaches face with the new rule emphasis, season planning, offensive and defensive team play, tryouts and training camps plus much more. The 2012 Trainers Level three clinic is designed to allow participants to exchange knowledge through group discussions and receive hands-on guidance from qualified instructors. The Clinic is also designed to help trainers become more confident when dealing with injuries that may occur to their players in game situations. This year the OHA Coaching Clinic has confirmed featured guest speakers Peter DeBoer (current NHL Head Coach of the New Jersey Devils). Along with DeBoer are Steve Spott (Head Coach and General Manager of the Kitchener Rangers OHL) and Troy Smith (Assistant Coach with the Kitchener Rangers OHL). More instructors and speakers will be named closer to the clinic date. The OHA Trainers Level 3 Clinic will feature instruction from Head Trainer of the Kitchener Rangers, Dan Lebold. Registered Sports Nutritionist and Nutritional Consultant for the Kitchener Rangers Lisa Spot will also give insight on a healthy alternative to eating for players at elite hockey levels. Members from the Red Cross of Kitchener and Waterloo will also be in attendance to demonstrate proper procedures in case of on ice emergencies. This two day clinic will leave applicants excited for the upcoming hockey season. The 2012 OHA Coaches Clinic does not require that you attend just to gain a Development 1 coaching certification. It is highly recommended that junior coaches continue their education in coaching hockey and the best way is to talk and learn from professionals involved in the game. If you’re interested in sending your coaching staff to the 2012 Coaches Clinic seminar only portion of the weekend, the knowledge gained will be priceless. The OHA is asking that those teams who have new coaches or trainers who require either their Development 1 or Level 3 Trainers Certificate (both minimum requirements to be on the bench in the OHA) to please submit an application to the OHA office no later than June 24th, 2011 in order to guarantee a spot in either the coaching or trainers clinics. Applications are available on the OHA website at www.ohahockey.org, please click on the links below to register for either the Coaching Development 1 clinic or the Trainers Level 3 Clinic. The OHA is dedicated to providing not only our players but our entire association a place “Where the Best Develop.” If you require further assistance please contact OHA Development Coordinator Stephen Boscariol at the OHA Office. MORE ABOUT TRAINERS LEVEL 3 CLINIC
Hockey is an exciting, fast-paced contact sport. In hockey, like any contact sport there is an inherit risk of injury. With the safety of the players in mind, teams must be able to provide proper and efficient injury management. In light of the above statement, the OHA, together with the cooperation of the Hockey Development Centre of Ontario host HTCP Level III clinics. We provide a clinic for trainers who have successfully completed both the Level I and Level II HTCP programs. The clinic is designed to allow participants to exchange knowledge through group discussions and receive hands-on guidance from qualified instructors. The clinic is also to help trainers become more confident when dealing with injuries that may occur to their players. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
